Magnesium sulphate injection is given in the treatment of low levels of magnesium in the blood if an oral route is not indicated. It is also used in the treatment of convulsions in pregnant women. Safety in pregnancy has been established. In the event of magnesium sulphate toxicity, an antidote(calcium gluconate) is available.
